Here's just a small sampling of the change we are making in our community:
Desi Beard, Library Media Specialist for Lake Dallas Middle School wrote a grant to purchase 30 Kindles for students to use. These kindles allow students to access hundreds of books as well as have tools and support right at their fingertips.
NOT JUST ORDINARY ACTS OF KINDNESS
Cindy McClendon, counselor at Lake Dallas Elementary, wrote a grant to purchase a video camera. Mrs. McClendon uses this "Kindness Cam" to record students re-enacting random acts of kindness. These videos are used to reinforce good habits in the students of LDE
FILLING THE GAPS
Monica May, first grade teacher at Lake Dallas Elementary, used the funds awarded for her grant to purchase books for the first grade's guided reading library. This allows each child access to "just right" books for check out each night.
Kristen Adams, dyslexia teacher at Shady Shores Elementary, purchased iPads with the LCEF award for use in her classroom. The students use these iPads to practice cursive handwritind, spelling practice and decoding skills.
